ABOUT US

Leading the Way in Education, Advocacy, and Support for BPD

The BPD Alliance, also known as the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder, began in 2001 with one purpose: to reduce the suffering of those affected by borderline personality disorder and chronic emotion dysregulation.

Founded by Dr. Perry Hoffman alongside individuals with BPD, family members, clinicians, and researchers, the BPD Alliance has grown into an international leader while staying true to our values of compassion, access, relationships, and evidence.

Our Mission

To provide education, raise public awareness and understanding, decrease stigma, promote research, and enhance the quality of life of those affected by Borderline Personality Disorder, chronic emotion dysregulation, and related problems.

Our Vision

A world where emotional wisdom prevails

Our Values

These deeply held convictions define how we operate:

COMPASSION

We advance compassionate and non-judgmental understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and emotion dysregulation.

There is hope. Our actions are rooted in empathy for those with lived experience, their families, their providers, and researchers.

ACCESS

We work to make our programs available to all, and to ensure environments where everyone feels welcome and safe.

We welcome and offer access to anyone impacted by chronic emotion dysregulation.

RELATIONSHIPS

BPD and emotion dysregulation occur in the context of relationships and impact the lives of those with lived experiences and their families.

People with BPD and emotion dysregulation can (and do) create meaningful lives and relationships.

We cannot solve this alone. We must work together.

EVIDENCE

We rely on evidence-based approaches to support those impacted by BPD and chronic emotion dysregulation.

Our decisions are inspired by compassion and grounded in data.
