Before It’s a Crisis: Helping Kids Cope with Loss and Change

Today’s children are navigating loss and change in ways that feel more intense and complex than ever before. This webinar opens the door to an important conversation—offering parents, educators, and caregivers practical tools to support children before they reach a point of crisis.

At the heart of this program is Don’t Go, Gwendolyn!—a heartfelt and playful musical comedy designed for children. The story explores healthy ways to cope with grief, loss, and change through the relatable experience of a best friend moving away.

On the day Gwendolyn and her cat Hip are preparing to move, her best friend Marina and her dog Hop arrive for one last playdate. When Marina sees the moving boxes, the reality of the goodbye sets in. Overwhelmed, she climbs into a box and refuses to come out. Through imagination, shared memories, and gentle conversation, the girls begin to process what it means to feel sad, miss someone, and face change. Along the way, they discover that grief isn’t linear, emotions are a natural part of being human, and there are healthy ways to cope.

Join us for an exclusive preview of this original piece, developed by Dr. Saul Zelan and Katie Brady as a “trunk show” for theater companies bringing social-emotional learning into elementary school assemblies.

This interactive webinar will include a behind-the-scenes look at the production and its goals, practical strategies for supporting children through grief and transition, opportunities for participation—including learning the playful “PopDropSlideChallet” dance and making it your own - and a live Q&A with the creators.
